Sitting on the empty steps
She stumbles

Boisterous chatter all around

Didn’t phase

Felt a presence next to her

She turns

A friendly face demanding her attention
She internally pales
Shots fired one after the other
She listens, nods
And answers when she had too

Can feel the salty prickle

Wanted to feel numb

Shut the world out
But she keeps her ground
Sucks it up in gulps
Made no sound

Her efforts to look sane

Noticed or not

She didn’t know

The talks did not stop
Eyes bore into hers
But never asked

She blanches at the thought

If indeed someday inquired
What answer, did she have to give

Its her battle

On her own

She has to win or submit
The old armor of power
She wore was slowly crumbling
Or maybe it already had
Who knows :
She surely did not.
