You own the right to shroud me

( Mujhe Kafan Pehnane ka Hakk)

Living life

The way of the dead

Dieng a new death

In my head

Each day

I am now the dead

The rotten

The trodden

Squelched in the

Quilt of suffocation

I lay securely swaddled.

Deaf, have I become

Hearing the bells of your

Awaited arival

In every unheard symphony

I screech loudly

To others

My wails

Nothing but cacophony

The mirror doesn’t call

To me anymore

It’s only your reflection

I see in it

Which adds to it’s haunting allure

Savage beast have I become

Wildly thrashing

Throwing the net at you

From within the glass globe

Getting back, slapped each time

Scraping, gripping, digging, pulling

Collapsed have I

Gave you

The right to own me

Call me yours

To keep

With wide open eyes

And today

I, while going in

A slumber perennial

Give you the right

To veil me in the black shroud

I ask you

To not shed a tear

When you come

Don’t think

Of things you repent

Don’t repent

Smile, if Could

Reminiscing over

The happy lanes

Over which we had

Someday boarded our plane together

I beseech

At your feet

To allow me

The glance

Of my love

Atleast once after I leave

My soul would stay

Waiting where I leave

For you to come

And set it free

Don’t make it wait

As I did

If you could help it

As the wait was

Ever so unfulfilled.

P. S. Thank you so much for everyone who waited for this post.  I have tried my best to do whatever I could to try to explain my previous Hindi poem. I really hope it’s relatable.

  1. I’m not really THAT fluent in hindi so there were a few parts I couldn’t grasp but this is quite intriguing. Very well translated 😄
